A Quick Start Guide to Working from Home

To help keep our team and partners safe, we decided to suspend our online sales until further notice and focus on our blog and other aspects of Qualia Wellness which can be done remotely. Part of our team has quite a lot of experience with working remotely in fact, so it wasn't a difficult decision to make.

We know that some of you may be forced to switch due to the Covid-19 health crisis, and may find it a little daunting at first. Here's a quick guide and some information for you to help ease into working from home.

Create a workspace away from distractions.

If your home allows it, use a room even if it is tiny. Separating your workspace from your leisure and sleeping spaces will really help to create an environment that avoids the spiral of procrastination and distractions. It may also help with setting boundaries if you find yourself having to keep your children at home which can make things much harder.

If you are good at managing your own time, you'll be fine once you settle in. Don't worry if you're finding it hard the first few days. Just keep at it and you'll find your rhythm eventually.

If you're used to having somebody manage your schedule and drip feed you tasks, then it will take a bit more effort. Try starting your day or your week by setting a google calendar or paper schedule with precise tasks you need to do and break it down into smaller elements with deadlines.

You can also use things like a Pomodoro method and timer, to take regular five-minute breaks and help with your pace.

Try killing all your tabs if you have to use the internet. Keep only the ones you really need open. If your job allows it, cut off the internet for periods of time so you don't get distracted.

If you don't have a computer just for work, consider creating a separate user session for work, which is stripped of any distracting icons and where you aren't logged in to social media in the browser.

At the very least make sure you don't find yourself scrolling endlessly on social media or checking your emails every five minutes. Set a specific time where you check your emails (or in the current context, the news). Even if it might not feel like this, the majority of emails are not emergencies and don't have to be replied to within minutes of receiving them.
